Creative platforms seem to be growing these days under the guise of enable the shift. Increasingly, platforms support freelancers and start-ups; In addition to early movers such as Fiverr and Linkedin, there is now also making way for platforms such as Contra and Patreon. Working in communities is a new reality next to working in a company, office or team. Below is a small selection of platforms that realize this and can positively influence your future of work!
01 Against
Contra is a facilitator for mutual professional and economic benefit. Instead of a hub and spokes organization, they build a network of relationships. Contra helps freelancers create their own platform, based on customer relationships and empathy. By joining the many microcommunities from freelancers you can take advantage of the opportunities you and your colleagues create.
02 Sub stack
The freedom of journalists has long been limited by editors, advertisers and viewing figures. Journalists come to Substacks in the hope of regaining this freedom – creative, editorial, but also financial freedom. Substack provides journalists with a platform to say what they want, unhampered by editors. The independent writers who join the platform own their own content as well as their subscription lists. They also have no obligation to stay on the platform. They can leave at any time and take their subscribers with them. As the creator of Substack, Judd Legum, has said, “It's not about playing the Google algorithm or the Facebook algorithm. It's about writing compelling content that wins hearts.”
03 Circle
Circle calls itself “the modern community platform for creators”. It's a place to publish content, host discussions, and cultivate a membership-based community. The white-label platform lets you look and feel customize your space. The company itself was founded in 2019 and both co-founders first worked at the edtech startup Teachable (also in this list).
04 Gum Road
Sometimes your expertise lies in your ability to create and this is true Gumroad you can help. It is a platform where you can build your own website or landing page and then showcase your service/product/idea. In online marketplaces there are hundreds of freelancers offering the same services as you and then customers have to make a choice. With Gumroad, it's like sending a customer their own online brochure. Another plus; you do not pay high costs and you receive good customer analyses. Check it out!
05 Teachable
Teachable is an all-in-one platform where you can take online courses and/or create your own. Teachable handles everything from web hosting to payment processing. Although the platform is best known for its online courses, you can also use Teachable to offer digital products. It's a good place to sell ebooks, PDFs, or templates, among other things, and give students access to those books.
06 Stir
Stir is a platform that gives you as a solopreneur an overview of your finances and income streams. It also offers collaboration tools so that you can start a collective project with other creators. Stir will divide the income within a partnership. The company was founded by former employees of Facebook and Google and is backed by chief executives from Cameo and Patreon, among others.
