Air quality at Space to Create
Continuous measurement of C02 values from August
At Space to Create we have placed 2 meters from 2 different manufacturers that we place in different rooms every day for checking. At Space to Create, we have a climate system in our building that – except at night and on weekends – is continuously on and which refreshes the air 100%. So we constantly have fresh air from outside and no recirculation.
Measurement
We can show the following results of C2 equipment after 02 months:
In September we measure max 170 ppd with the EVE room. (left). *See about C02 and PPM and PPD The second meter (on the right) registers an average of 400 ppm and thus well below the 800 ppm value that requires careful attention. Health risks only occur above 1200 ppm. The measurements show above-average good air quality at Space to Create.
About C02 and PPM and PPD
The value measured by a CO2 sensor is expressed in ppm (parts per million) and says something about the air quality and the amount of fresh air we have in our building and therefore also indirectly says something about the risk of contamination. Carbon dioxide (chemical formula CO2) is a colorless and odorless gas that occurs naturally in the atmosphere. The Earth's atmosphere today contains about 390ppm carbon dioxide. This concentration increases every year. This is mainly caused by the large-scale use of fossil fuels, but deforestation also plays a role.
CO2 meter for measuring ventilation
A CO2 meter checks whether the amount of ventilation is sufficient. The CO2 detector is a measuring system for CO2 that continuously indicates the condition of the indoor climate. Should a room be ventilated or not? The value measured by a CO2 sensor is expressed in ppm (parts per million). CO2 sensors therefore indicate the ratio of CO2 in the air.
It is generally stated that measured CO2 values of 0 – 800 ppm are safe values. The room is sufficiently supplied with fresh air. Waste materials such as CO2 become sufficient discharged.
If the CO2 meter indicates a CO2 value of 800 – 1200 ppm means that attention is required. The air quality is still just adequate, but extra ventilation is required. Above 1200 health complaints such as headache, drowsiness, fatigue and irritation of the mucous membranes occur. At a constant CO2 concentration of 1000 ppm, the concentration capacity decreases sharply. The Building Decree for New Schools sets an upper limit of 950 ppm CO2, the Health Council has set an upper limit of 1.200 ppm.
PPD that the EVE room measures is a combination of C02, humidity and temperature and is the Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied.
